Kingdom of the Feared Review

Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco (Kingdom of the Cursed 3)

4 stars

Out: Everywhere

You know the expression "Go big or go home"? Well Maniscalco didn't go home with the finale of this trilogy. An assassination in House Greed that points to Vittoria, unrest brewing between witches, shape-shifters and demons, the addition of the Feared and the ongoing mystery about Emilia, stirred with many surprises, make up the ingredients of a tantalizing read.

This ever-expanding, deliciously dark and enticing world is brought to life with awe-inspiring descriptions, embellishing the already beautifully paced narrative and meticulous storytelling. Anticipation for what will happen next accompanies us, the emotional investment at dangerous levels. DEFCON 1 for how intensely we feel along with the characters.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Maniscalco is great at creating a multilayered mystery and having us solve it in the company of the protagonist. It is as if we can see the gears turning in Emilia's head. Emilia's kind heart is something to admire, and how strongly she loves and cares despite what she's going through. She is determined, brave and fierce. The way Wrath cares for her is swoon. Their love always makes me smile. His strength is something we get to see in full force during this installment and I'm here for it.

I chuckle, nay chortle as the running gag of Wrath & Emilia found in compromising positions, seen naked or being interrupted. There are over-the-top scenes which you have to read to believe. If you don't like spice in your books what the Wrath are you doing here?

Your patience will be tried when it comes to the explanation of curses and prophecy. The author takes the twisty scenic route and takes in my opinion nonsensical detours in the how and the way and the mechanic of it. I personally needed something with a clearer structure.

This book, actually this series is about finding your power and using it to be your true self. Something that is mentioned and I like a lot is the value of actions over words. So sexy it's sinful, full of breathtaking action and betrayal, unpredictable and with a world that I will not soon forget, this was a most enjoyable finale.
